The lack of infrastructure, shortage of medical personnel, and high cost of healthcare services are just a few of the issues that make it difficult for people to receive quality healthcare services in Africa

Afya Lead is a youth-led company that was founded with the goal of improving healthcare access and affordability in Africa. The company believes that developing local medical devices and healthcare digital products, can simplify the healthcare system in Africa and make it more accessible to everyone. Afya Lead is focused on providing innovative solutions that address the challenges faced by African healthcare systems, and they are working to achieve this goal through their products and services.

Products Developed by Afya Lead: Afya Lead has developed three main products that are aimed at improving healthcare access and affordability in Africa.

The first product is Mkanda Salama, a locally made device designed to control excessive bleeding immediately after delivery until necessary interventions are carried out. It is strapped around a woman’s abdomen with excessive bleeding while they are transferred to higher-level facilities or the theatre. The device is portable, easy to use, and affordable.

The second product developed by Afya Lead is Pamoja Bima a healthcare digital product that is aimed at improving health insurance coverage in Tanzania. Pamoja Bima is the ‘’Partner –Agent’’ Micro Health insurance model that is been built by Partnership between Community Health Fund [CHF] and Afya Lead Company. It aims at increasing access to health insurance among people from the informal sector in rural areas of Tanzania.

The third product is TB Connect aimed at tracking the spread of tuberculosis (TB) in Africa. TB Connect is a digital platform and It is a mobile-web-based application that enables early receipt and notification of TB Results, therefore TB Connect helps healthcare providers track and manage patients with TB, making it easier to control the spread of the disease in Tanzania and Africa at large.
